Scott Sawyer began his legal career by 'putting up a shingle.' As is the case with many young solo-practitioners, he had a general practice and found himself focusing on many areas of the law. The first case Scott tried as an independent attorney was against the United States Department of Transportation. The case involved an environmental whistleblower. The whistleblower was completely stymied by a military chain of command when attempting to report an environmental cleanup site.

He is currently representing the citizens of New London who are involved in eminent domain and environmental cases against the city and state. Attorney Sawyer was at the argument table for the seminal eminent domain case which was heard by the United States Supreme Court.
